Message from the CEO
As a former president once stated, “one person can make a difference and everyone should try.” For the Harris County Housing Authority, 2010 is recognized as the year of my colleagues.
A tribute to 52 purpose-driven weeks, where both opportunities and hallenges were confronted by a team of 30 dedicated housing professional who believe in delivering innovative housing solutions to the citizens of Harris County is cornerstone to “making a difference.” Despite the chronic housing shortfall our nation faces and tightening resources, HCHA harnessed our abilities to focus on a year of capacity building and thus, prepared the agency to respond in appropriate measure to monumental changes in the housing sector. For this, I am proud of the HCHA staff, who without hesitation stepped up to the task, rolled up their sleeves, offered no excuses and exercised uncompromising integrity and a common belief to dare to dream big and deliver even more.
Just imagine the possibilities if so few can make a positive impact on an issue as important as housing during this historic time. The simple truth is that partnership is no accident! And if you remember one thing, it is alone we can do so little; together we can change the world.
I am excited to announce HCHA received HUD’s highest honor as a SEMAP “High Performer” and likewise the independent financial audit exhibited “zero” findings. Both are proud moments and have been achieved for the last eight years consecutively. Furthermore, HCHA was also awarded 75 HUD-VASH vouchers, and continued to provide assistance to more than 1,000 families through
the Disaster Housing Assistance Program. I also commend HCHA’s homeownership seminars as
a successful step in adding several new homeowners to the 25 already enrolled in the program.
Sincerely,
Guy R. Rankin, CEO & Executive Director
