It is truly amazing how 365 days can make a difference in the communities we serve. Tucked within 40 pages of this report is an opportunity to see firsthand our annual commitment to making the impossible possible, along with rethinking the fundamentals of how to provide the finest affordable housing communities in America.

Indeed, we are building bridges, and HCHA’s 2009 accomplishments reflect what a committed team can deliver. Our success model relies on the day-to-day, hour-to-hour, systematic harmonization between our staff, community partners, stakeholders and our clients. We have seen firsthand how working together has propelled HCHA toward national prominence as a “bridge building” agency capable of rapid change and innovation. Hard work alone is not enough, and success does not come trouble-free. It involves the challenges and constant pressure of being tested, weighed and measured. Although some responsibility is appropriately layered throughout HCHA’s executive management matrix, the chief executive is the lone navigant at the helm of the organization. Safely charting the organization’s course presents the CEO with unique duties and opportunities that determine the measure of success or failure of the organization. Ultimately, it is understood that the responsibility
rests squarely on the shoulders of the CEO, as given by
the citizens of Harris County.

It is an honor to serve our county, state and nation when
developing the best affordable housing solutions in America. It is also an honor working with a board and staff as passionate as I am about HCHA and its mission. Our banner for 2010 reads: ALL IN. That’s ALL IN for service and those who need a bridge to the future.

In closing, I must personally thank all of the staff and their
families for making HCHA a great place to work and providing what many call the best service in our industry. You are a truly remarkable team.
